EM cosmography

The resulting digital composition creates a new empirical context for interrelating the electromagnetic knowledge of various fields within a unified timeline and integrated data structure. For example, the paradigm shift in economics, spanning the trading of shells to electronic banking, can be explored in relation to the discovery of the electron in physics and the use of digital instruments in the fine arts.

The Electromagnetic Cosmography project will thus write a new story of electromagnetism through both a dynamic prototype and DVD presentation. Information will be represented in three formats: a conceptual map for visualizing the genealogy of electromagnetic order; a multitracked diagram for outlining important electromagnetic events within and between disciplines; and a relational database for documenting these specific events in greater detail, which will link back to the map and diagram.

The outcome will be a proof-of-concept prototype which demonstrates and provides a framework for the interdisciplinary study of electromagnetism. Future collaboration with open-source programmers and content experts from numerous disciplines would enable the development of a working model. The prototype itself will open up a great range of possibilities and potential for interpreting the story of electromagnetism in dance, painting, music, sculpture, architecture, and other mediums of study. [e.g. Using the language of dance, a performance could tell the story of electromagnetic evolution.]
